What’s in our nappies
Our philosophy, simple is best. Always.
Pure Cotton: Our USA Certified Organic Cotton back sheet is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Certified and delivers breathability whilst providing the structure and shape of our premium nappies. Our cotton waistband and leg cuffs ensure a comfortable fit for your little one.
100% plant-based layers: Hypoallergenic, Dermatest Accredited, sustainably and ethically sourced materials, free from all harmful chemicals and irritants.
Wood Pulp: Certified FSC® wood pulp is a vital component of our plant-based absorbent core, which draws moisture into a soft, breathable centre.
Tissue Paper: Layers of tissue paper wrap our key absorbent components to keep them together in a natural shell, and lock wetness away to maintain up to 12-hours of dryness.
Super absorbent polymers (SAP): our high-quality absorbent polymers are another powerhouse in the absorbency of our non-toxic nappies.
Corn Starch: The 100% compostable PLA layer is made of a corn starch film that is an all-natural, water-resistant layer that works to disperse liquid and is an alternative to plastics you may find in traditional nappies.
Spandex: A small but efficient amount of spandex is incorporated into our leg cuffs ensuring a perfect fit to eliminate leaks and spills.

Our Plantcell Technology™
Our unique Plantcell Technology™ was developed to enhance absorbency and performance of our eco nappies. Harnessing the inherent natural properties of plant based materials, we have combined these materials in a way that wicks away more than 900ml of liquid, and traps it in our highly absorbent core with a dual seal system to draw moisture away from your babies skin. Non-GMO corn starch, 100% Organic Cotton and Certified FSC® Wood Pulp are the cornerstones of our incredible nappies.
CHEMICAL FREE AND PROUD
Our nappies are routinely independently tested to ensure they are free from all harmful chemicals and compounds, including PFAS, chlorine, fragrances, alcohol, parabens, phenols, pesticides, formaldehyde, carcinogenic and allergenic dyes and pthalates - protecting your mini from rashes, irritation, and discomfort.
WETNESS INDICATORS - WHY WE DON'T USE THEM
As much as a wetness indicator can be a helpful tool for a new parent, we do not include these in our nappies for good reason.
At this time, there is no chemical-free way to include a wetness indicator as they contain dyes that may be harmful to your baby, which is the primary reason Ecoriginals does not use one.
SUPPLY CHAIN TRANSPARENCY
Ecoriginals wipes are manufactured in New Zealand in a facility that operates from 100% renewable energy – that’s energy from a combination of wind farms, hydro stations and solar arrays.
Our nappies include Certified FSC® Wood Pulp, Compostable non-GMO Corn Starch, Tissue Paper and Certified Organic Cotton sourced from the United States, China and Japan. These raw materials are then consolidated and shipped to our New Zealand partner factory in China where our nappies are assembled and packaged into 100% Compostable Rice Paper packaging.
At this time, China is the only country that has the technology and capabilities to produce our premium eco nappies to the standards we require. Our partner factory are BRC Certified ensuring that our ethical production of goods and compliance standards are met.
HOW OUR NAPPIES PERFORM
Utilising our unique ultra absorbent Plantcell Technology™ Core, our nappies have a tried and tested absorbency of up to 900ml of liquid which is proven to keep your baby dry for up to 12 hours.
Our nappies also boast a 3D leak guard around the leg which helps minimise blow outs and leakage while providing a comfortable snug fit.
How many nappies do I need?
Please refer to our Pack Quantities description at the start of this page for a comprehensive overview of how long each size nappy pack may last you.
In general, a 6 Pack of Nappies will last you 3-4 weeks. This depends on your daily use but is calculated based on 8-6 changes per day. For newborns, you may need up to 8 changes per day, while for larger sizes, daily changes decrease to about 4-6 as your baby grows and less for the Junior Pants.
Nappy Biodegradability
Based on our degradation testing, 93% of our nappy had completely biodegraded post use within a 3 month time frame. The remaining 7% being our tabs, cuffs and part of the frontal tape that for the time being require PE (polyethylene) for strength and flexibility did not degrade. We continue to work with our supply chain to reimagine a 100% biodegradable nappy and have a target of 2027 to achieve this.
